He will give us light and strength

Let us then think only of the present, and not even permit our minds to wander with curiosity into the future. This future is not yet ours; perhaps it never will be.

It is exposing ourselves to temptation to wish to anticipate God, and to prepare ourselves for things which He may not destine for us. If such things should come to pass, He will give us light and strength according to the need.

Why should we desire to meet difficulties prematurely, when we have neither strength nor light as yet provided for them? Let us give heed to the present, whose duties are pressing; it is fidelity to the present which prepares us for fidelity in the future.

New Series – Discovering Austin

This year I want to discover more of Austin. So I, along with a couple friends, have decided to try a new Austin restaurant or bar once or twice a month.

Last night a few of us went to 219 West – a “multi venue bar and restaurant.”

They had amazing appetizers. I had the grilled asparagus with lump crab and it was perfect. If I could cook like that…

More reviews on Austin venues to come.

Reflections from Sunday

Walking with God is not a vacation – it’s an adventure.

God does not believe in immediate gratification. He wants to build faith and trust in Him. He wants to build endurance in us.

God often calls us to the desert with Him. I’d rather be with God in the desert, than on a luxury vacation without Him.

Until He comes, we have work to do. We are His ministers and He works through us (and most often in spite of our shortcomings).

Great things have yet to come. Greater things have yet to be done…

Is it possible to understand God?

No.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

I don’t understand why God does what He does.

All I can do is seek His will for my life. And most of the time, this seems impossible.

So right now, right here I must take action where I know I can, but wait for the rest.

Seeking God’s will = taking (what seem to be very small) steps forward + waiting.

In the end, may all this somehow bring glory to Him.

My Future – in color

I took the quiz that Tallie has on her blog, and here’s what my quiz results were:

My interest color is Red (whatever that means):

People with red Interests like hands-on / problem solving job responsibilities and professions that involve practical, technical, and objective activities. Red Interests include: building, implementing, organizing, producing, and delegating, which often lead to work in manufacturing, managing, directing, small business owning, and surgery.

My usual style is Yellow (whatever that means):

People with yellow styles perform their job responsibilities in a manner that is orderly and planned to meet a known schedule. They prefer to work where things get done with a minimum of interpretation and unexpected change. People with a yellow style tend to be orderly, cautious, structured, loyal, systematic, solitary, methodical, and organized, and usually thrive in a research-oriented, predictable, established, controlled, measurable, orderly environment. You will want to choose a work environment or career path in which your style is welcomed and produces results.

A long list of careers came up for me, ranging from Aerospace Engineer, to Chef, to Political Campaign Worker, to Vet, to Entrepreneur, to….and the list goes on. I guess “the world is my oyster!” (what does that phrase mean, anyways?)

All my plans and purposes

“Lord, I give up all my own plans and purposes, all my own desires and hopes, and accept Thy will for my life. I give myself, my life, my all utterly to Thee to be Thine forever. Fill me and seal me with Thy Holy Spirit. Use me as Thou wilt, send me where Thou wilt, work out Thy whole will in my life at any cost, now and forever.” A Prayer by Betty Scott Stam

Lord, help me to pray this prayer, then help me live it.

Bugs

Okay, so our house is infested. They are little brown bugs that fly around and get in your drink and your food and crawl all over you. They are literally everywhere. I feel like I’m living in Egypt during the plagues.

The exterminator is coming tomorrow. He better or I’m moving out.
