Jesus Sightings on a recent trip to NY

In keeping with the theme from the previous post, I’m trying to “develop an eye for Jesus”. Here are some things I saw and experienced.

  • on the plane – a father caring for his two young sons. he reassured them when there was turbulence, gave them schedule updates as our flight continued to be delayed, spoke to them gently when they got irritated at each other, spoke kindly of their mother (who was not with them), put a protective arm around them both when the plane jumped and acted like it was going to fall from the sky
  • on the streets in NYC – a sweet smile from an older woman I walked past
  • two couples from England who let me go first in line to check into my hotel room when we all get there at the same time around 2am in the morning. i saw them again the next day and it was fun to see “familiar” faces in a sea of strangers
  • getting two standby flights from JFK to ATX after I missed my flight due to travel delays out of the city
  • the AA ticket agent who noticed I’m tall and worked on getting me a seat with more leg room, not just on the leg from JFK to Dallas, but also on the flight from Dallas to ATX
  • on the plane – a (cute) Marine who put my suitcase up in the overhead for me
  • barely getting to the connecting plane in Dallas before the flight left and being greeted by name by the AA ticket agent and getting reassured that I indeed had a seat on that flight
  • watching the same AA ticket agent offer a first class upgrade to the military officer who arrived at the gate the same time I did. his smile of gratitude was fabulous
  • the parking agent in ATX who offered to stay at my car with me while I found my car keys

For Our Sake, That We Might Become

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  II Corinthians 5:21

This is the what and the why of our lives.
He became sin — so that we might become His righteousness.
He took on death — so that we might have life.
He took our place — so that our lives would take on glory and holiness and action that brings forth God’s Kingdom.

Summer Pastime II

In keeping with tradition, here are this summer’s movies:
1) The Holiday – still on the summer movie list. I can’t ever get enough of Kate Winslet and Jack Black in this movie.
2) Elf – a classic Christmas-in-July movie (the best part is Papa Elf being serious when the whole time he looks like he’s about to crack up laughing).

3) Leap Year – you can’t go wrong with a film set in Ireland and watching Amy Adams prance around in her high high heels while Matthew Goode stands back completely amused by her.
4) New in Town – so so funny (in a laugh out loud sort of way). I really wanted some tapioca pudding while I was watching it.

5) The BBC version of Sense and Sensibility – I heart Colonel Brandon.

April Post

The purpose of this post is to keep the right-hand scroll bar in-sync with a listing for each month. This is a very bad reason for blogging, I know. But I’m sort of weird that way.

A second reason for this post is because my friend Tiffany was bugging me the other day about not blogging. So Tiff, this post is dedicated to you.

And here are another couple of random thoughts:

– I’m not ready for summer weather. I’ve been enjoying the pretty spring weather we’ve been experiencing here in ATX.
– I love Irish Breakfast tea, and not just for breakfast either.
– Work lately has been the most challenging it has ever been. Not sure what else to say about that.
– I love food from Masala Wok. So good!
– I have a new point and shoot Nikon camera that is smaller than my cell phone. I keep it in my purse, so Marianne, understand that you may get your photo taken more often than in the past. I’m sure you won’t mind.
– I love mussels. I had some in NYC on a recent trip and they were phenomenal.
– I recently went to a Hillsong United concert and felt really old. That said, it was awesome to see so many young people worshiping the Savior.
– I would like to hike Oak Creek Canyon again with Dad, Eryn, George, Jess, Marra, and Liisa
– I am completely in love with my nephew

Heaven is a sweet maple syrup kiss

This week so far:

Listening to Steven Curtis Chapman’s new cd Beauty Will Rise. It’s rocking my world.

First night volunteering at R.O.C.K. The first step on a 1000 mile journey. Adorable kids. Fluffy horses. Dust on my boots. Tonight was dedicated to Lynn McGary.

Hard but good conversation with a friend. Truth is hard to speak sometimes. But good. It’s always good.

Massachusetts. Wow.

The Boys Are Back

  • finally! a sappy Clive Owen movie
  • the pain of losing someone
  • how grief changes people
  • the boys’ anger and grief, expressed in different ways
  • the older boy longing for his dad’s love and his hunger to be wanted by his dad
  • love/frustration/love expressed between a mom-in-law and a son
  • golden, hot Australian countryside contrasted with cold, gloomy England
  • fabulous music
  • how boys need their dads
  • a father’s love for his family

Little known facts about me

Following my sister’s post, here are some random facts about me:

  • Yes, I was KristaKrantz, member of the popcorn gang.
  • I also went through two stick horses. My horses names were Thunder and Bree. They were both beautiful dapple greys. We spend many hours running down the beach and around the farm in Oregon.
  • Yes, I was tormented by my twin, and yes I was the saintly twin. 😛
  • My 4H dog did really well the first year (a couple championships), but the second year she spent the whole show staring at a squirrel. Needless to say we didn’t win much.
  • I also took oil painting as a kid and still have a dream to start it back up again.
  • I have a bad memory and don’t remember the Eryn/Jessica almost-drowning incident.
  • I had nothing to do with the ants served up for a Bible study refreshment. In fact, I was an innocent by-stander caught up in the treachery.

Summer Pastime

In keeping up with Kelly, I’ve posted my top 5 2009 summer movies below:

1) The Holiday – it’s super hot outside and watching a movie about Christmas just feels good.

2) Raising Helen – this movie makes me laugh and cry. And John Corbett is a “sexy man of God”.

3) Casablanca – a classic with the texture of a really good glass of red wine.

4) Prince Caspian – I have a crush on Edmund, what more do I need to say?

5) Dan in Real Life – sososososo funny. The shower scene is one of the funniest movie scenes of all times.
